Another career-best round netted Academy of Art University women’s golf freshman Sterling Hawkins (Music Production & Sound Design for Visual Media), another Pacific West Conference Golfer of the Week award; this time for the week of March 23–29 after finishing seventh at the Cal State Monterey Bay Women’s Otter Invitational at Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, CA.

Hawkins shot a career-best even-par 72 in Monday’s opening round and was tied for second, just one stroke off the lead. She would earn her second straight top-10 finish Tuesday by wrapping the tournament with a 152 (plus-8) two-round total, four strokes off the lead and good for seventh place. She was the top PacWest finisher in the tournament.

Hawkins was the Urban Knights’ top scorer for the second straight week and helped lead them over No. 22 Shorter University (8th, 651) and No. 31 Western Washington (7th, 647). They topped D-I programs Dartmouth University (6th, 645) and Incarnate Word (9th, 662). They also finished ahead of PacWest teams Point Loma (5th, 641) and Holy Names (12th, 770). It was the team’s second straight top-three showing in as many weeks and fourth of the spring.

It is the second consecutive week Hawkins has earned the PacWest nod as Golfer of the Week after earning last week’s award thanks to a sixth-place finish at the Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas.
