A Senior Day victory on April 11 stretched the No. 11 Academy of Art University women’s tennis team’s win streak to six, as seniors Nina Gajdosikova (Graphic Design), Jenny Johansson (Fashion Design) and Kinga Kurczbuch (Industrial Design) each helped lead the Urban Knights to a 6-3 win over Holy Names at the San Francisco Tennis Club.

ART U swept the No. 1 through No. 4 singles, including three wins from Gajdosikova (No. 1), Johansson (No. 3) and Kurczbuch (No. 4), and took the top two spots in doubles for the victory. The Urban Knights snapped Holy Names’ (16–5) winning streak at 13 matches.

After being honored in a pre-match ceremony, Gajdosikova proceeded to team with junior Annika Schneider (Graphic Design) at No. 1 doubles to defeat HNU’s Jessica Ho and Leticia Vieira 8–3. Johansson paired with junior Michelle Dandik Zaale (Fashion Design) at No. 2 doubles and won 8–2 over Chelsea Smithback and Lexi Bevins, giving ART U an early 2–1 lead.

The Urban Knights’ four singles wins came in dominating fashion. All four came in straight sets. No Holy Names player won more than two games in any of the eight sets played during those defeats. Gajdosikova won 6–1, 6–2 over Mariel Bautista at No. 1, Johansson won at No. 3, 6–0, 6–2 over Smithback and Kurczbuch won 6–2, 6–2 over Vieira at No. 4. Dandik Zaale also contributed a singles win—her fourth in a row—beating Ho 6–0, 6–1 at No. 2.
