Kevin Mendez Named PacWest Men’s Soccer Defender of the Week

Academy of Art University men’s soccer freshman goalkeeper Kevin Mendez (Advertising) continued a stellar start to his career and earned his second straight Pacific West Conference weekly award in the process, as he was named PacWest Defender of the Week for the week of Sept. 7-13.

Mendez was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 Kezar Classic. He posted a 1-0-1 record with two overtime shutouts and 10 total saves. He did not allow a goal in 208 minutes played. He earned his second win of the season after shutting out San Francisco State for 98 minutes on Sept. 12. He also led the Urban Knights to their first draw versus Chico State on Sept. 10, playing 110 minutes of shutout soccer.

Mendez’s award is the third PacWest weekly award the Urban Knights have received in the first two weeks of the season. In the opening week of 2015, Mendez was named Freshman of the Week while teammate Kristof Urbanyi (Motion Pictures & Television) was named Player of the Week.
